A Living Art Performance in North Creek Forest

Yesterday, August 9th, 38 students from UW Professor Amy Lambert's class on the Art and Science of Restoration Ecology enacted their own tribute to, and stewardship for, the cycles of nature.

Students gathered above the UWB wetlands, at it's time, the largest successful wetland restoration project in the USA. Their goal was to first traverse the wetlands.

It started with a simple stroll across native grasslands. On the edge of the wetland forest students gathered cuttings from willow and alder trees for later use.

The water gathered from North Creek was served to newly planted native trees and shrubs which will grow to become part of this mile long forest filter cleaning and cooling the waters of the North Creek salmon stream.

Next students had to travel along North Creek... at times forced into the creek... and gather water in containers, also for later use.

After an upstream hike and a brief road walk students strike a short trail through blackberries and pass through a door/art exhibit into the UW - Restoration Ecology site in North Creek Forest.

The cuttings taken from the wetland forest were then planted along the north edge for the project buffer where they will become new forest elements.
