We would like to thank the Rose Foundation for Communities and the Environment for supporting our work to protect the North Creek Watershed (and beyond) through the Puget Sound Stewardship and Mitigation Fund, a grantmaking fund created by the Puget Soundkeeper Alliance and administered by the Rose Foundation for Communities and the Environment.

This grant supports our Stewardship Program, which focuses on improving the biological function of North Creek Forest, while simultaneously engaging the community to participate in its care. Our broader goal is to create greater public understanding of the environmental needs of our region.

Support from the Rose Foundation allows us to dedicate staff time to recruit, coordinate and educate volunteers at restoration and monitoring events to ensure that everyone has a positive experience, and that committed volunteers have the opportunity to work up to leadership roles.

This grant also allows us to provide refreshments for our hard working volunteers, equips us with stewardship and monitoring supplies, and provides funding for an irrigation system based on the plans designed in 2015 by the UW-Bothell’s Citizen Engineer class.

These tangible things translate into impacts that may be hard to quantify, but are the heart of what we do. We are excited that with support from the Rose Foundation, we can continue to provide meaningful forest experiences for:
  • Small children volunteering alongside their parents. As parents pass along a love, respect and desire to protect our native habitats, their children often provide a unique sense of wonder and excitement - infectious for all.
  • Retired residents who dedicate their time to planting trees that will provide shade for their grandchildren and great grandchildren.
  • Children and young adults who may have never before explored a mature northwest forest. Their time in North Creek Forest can ignite a spark that will last a lifetime and set them on a path to become future champions of Puget Sound.

We are honored to partner with the Rose Foundation to help people understand the connections between upland habitat, water quality, and the health of Puget Sound and to provide opportunities for all ages to make a positive environmental impact. Thank you for supporting this important work throughout our region.

Thanks to grant funding from the Rose Foundation we are able to support large groups on our forest restoration sites. It is important to replace tools, gloves, hoses and always provide refreshments for hard working volunteers. Thanks everyone.
