What happens to our restoration sites after the initial project is complete? How do we address questions like:
Our restoration sites are designed by members of the UW Restoration Ecology Network (UWREN). Each UWREN team creates a habitat management plan that includes annual monitoring to help us assess how each site is doing.
Join us on Sunday, October 4, from 2-4pm for a hands-on Restoration Monitoring Workshop to learn more about how and why we monitor our restoration sites, and what we are learning from these efforts. Enjoy a hike through North Creek Forest and a tour of our restoration sites. Try your hand at the monitoring techniques and learn how you can get more involved in citizen science efforts in North Creek Forest. No previous experience required. For the past two summers we have been fortunate to partner with our neighbors at the Northshore YMCA who visited weekly with their Quest Teen Camp. The service these teens provided has made a huge contribution to maintaining our restoration sites, which need ongoing care. This year we had the added benefit of our Education Interns, Paulien, Colleen, and Teresa, who joined our Education Committee Volunteers to develop hands-on lessons and interactive games. Throughout the scorching heat of the summer our hearty crew kept our new plants watered and the weeds at bay and contributed almost 700 hours of stewardship service to North Creek Forest. Thank you all for your contributions to North Creek Forest! We would like to thank everyone who joined us for Discover Your Forest - our annual fall benefit. We enjoyed bringing groups on guided tours and showcasing our Stewardship and Education programs. At our Forest Inspiration Station, guests had the opportunity to be renewed by the peace and tranquility of the natural world. We all enjoyed hearing from our guest speaker: artist, author and environmental advocate Tony Angell. His stories from a childhood exploring the natural world are a wonderful reminder of the importance of preserving North Creek Forest for our children and grandchildren. Thank you for your generous contributions in support of our work. Many thanks to all who attended, our many volunteers, and our generous event sponsors:
