Sunday's article by former Congressman Norm Dicks and former Governor Dan Evans includes: "From protecting land along the Pacific Crest Trail and ensuring access to ranges in the Cascades for hiking and hunting to protecting the last urban forest in Bothell..."

The Washington State Recreation and Conservation Office reports on the release of grant funds to Bothell for acquisition of lands in North Creek Forest. Note: Congressional funding for the program is so weak the award is spread out over two years. This award is on top of an earlier one which the city is, we expect, using to negotiate a purchase before the grant expires.

UW Professor Amy Lambert's Restoration Ecology students made a huge dent in the initial work at this year's UW-REN site. Overall direction was provided by this years Team Liaison, Ryan Isaacson.

This year's team will have to figure out how to remove two abandon cars, a camper and bunch of garbage. That should improve water quality!

Distinguished Visitors from India
What do you do when you are a key environmental player at home and have a couple hours to spare between speaking engagements half way around the world?

Our visitors from India, Ms. Bhargavi S. Rao and Mr. K. R. Mallesha, chose North Creek Forest and the UW Bothell Wetlands. They dropped in for a couple of hours after a Kane Hall appearance and before an evening presentation at Microsoft, to see a local example of conservation and restoration.

Dr. Anu Taranath, recipient of the UW 2010 Distinguished Teaching Award, and 2012 UW-REN graduate, Elliott Church made this visit possible.

We didn't know how active their organization was until we checked out their web site. They have succeeded in getting Bangalore to be the first city in India to sort their garbage at the source (recycle). And they are involved in a ton of other things too... even challenging Monsanto, involving criminal prosecution for genome theft and pursuing a ban on GMO foods. They are the Environmental Support Group.  Amazing work!

Our September 29th Fundraiser is continuing to be a success. Checks are still coming in, now at $16,800 including one today for $10,000 from the Rose Foundation. The support we have experienced from our community, and the donations large and small, make our work possible. Thank you everyone for doing your part to save and restore North Creek Forest.
