![]() photo by David Irons (see Endorsements) We are stunned. The Washington State Legislature has voted to provide $200,000 toward the purchase of North Creek Forest. We have waited for months to tell you this and today it is real. If you go to the Home Page of this web site and look at what people like you are accomplishing you will be pleased. Representative Derek Stanford is responsible for this. Derek, we are in awe. At a time when financial pressures could be discouraging, you have guided this through to completion and it will benefit students for all future generations. These students will inherit a world where people in 2011 considered them and acted in their interests. On behalf of all Friends and supporters, we are grateful. Derek's own words understate his effort. Many thought it could not be done. “While future economic growth in our region will greatly benefit our community, we must also remember to protect our green spaces for recreation, education, and ecological benefits. Friends of North Creek Forest understands that responsibility, and they have worked tirelessly to preserve 64 acres of forest land in the heart of Bothell. That’s why I worked with them to secure capital project funds to help preserve this precious community resource that our kids will enjoy for years to come.” –State Representative Derek Stanford Well, what do you think? We would love it if you added your comment below. Friends of North Creek Forest

Thank-you to Derek Standford and all the friends of North Creek Forest. Can't wait to see what happens next, seems like the momentum is here and one of these days we'll be out chopping ivy, planting ferns & snowberries.

It is great to see success in preserving the few remaining forests in our urban watersheds. We still have the potential to keep the North Creek watershed as valuable salmon and wildllife habitat.

I hope this effort to purchase and protect this remnant of the original north pacific temporate rain forest is successful. Although it is most likely second growth succession, in the decades ahead it will take on old growth characteristics and provide a tremendous value to future generations of living things, including humans. successfull

I was a resident of Bothell from 1976 until 1990. My children graduated from Bothell Highschool. What an accomplishment and proof continued effort will prevail.

As Conservation Chair and Group Co-Chair of the Snohomish Group (Sierra Club, WA State Chapter), I applaud the efforts of Derek Stanford, Council Members Somers and Gossett (and others who may have helped with this success), and the many volunteers who have persisted in this effort. I will discuss with our Sno. Group the opportunity to pledge volunteer work hours. Our nation's "Top Ten Carbon-Storing Forests" are right here in the Pacific Northwest, providing clean water for our watersheds, fish, wildlife, plants, and people throughout the region. Puget Sound benefits, too, of course, from cleaner fresh water that flows from the watersheds into the Sound. Cheers!!!

This is grass-roots environmental stewardship. A community caring for the natural resources that support it and provide quality of life. No need to say more.
